For five weeks I was in the acute care program. Every day, the therapists put
me through the paces, said Nakano. I had twice a day sessions with both
physical therapists and occupational therapists to get me to a comfortable level of
functioning.
After his five week program, the doctor prescribed outpatient therapy twice a week.
Dr. Clint Patterson, Director of rehabcentre, is pleased with Nakanos
progress.
Though Nakanos progress is excellent, he did have a seizure several months
ago that had some of the same characteristics as a stroke. It was a bit
frightening, commented Nakano. It turned out that it wasnt a
stroke. Physicians arent quite sure what it was, but it didnt leave
any lasting problems.
Now with a new program at rehabcentre to educate stroke survivors about preventing
a second stroke and knowing the warning signs of a second stroke, Dennis is sure he
will be prepared if and when stroke symptoms appear.
Having a stroke is a frightening experience, said Nakano. I hope
I never have to experience another one, so Im doing what I can to prevent it
from ever happening again.
